The Jarrolds Family started a printing works in 1770 which has continued until recently. In 1823 they founded an independent department store in Norwich and family members are still on the board.

With the help of the store management and the support of BBC Voices were were able to invite a number of ex employees to tell their story oflife as a shop assistant years ago. Each person has told of their own personal experiences and together this gives us apicture of what the shopping experience was like for both customer and employee before teh era of the Shopping Mall.
